Coraline blog
Coroline moves into a new house, where she discovers many strange things. When Coraline first moved in she almost hated her family, her parents were ignoring her and were busy with there own project. Corline discovers a secret door hidden behind wallpaper, Coraline trys to open the door behind the door is a brick wall. After the first couple of times opening the door, Coraline opens the door only this time their is a colourful tunnel leading to another door. Coraline enters this tunnel and goes through the door, she finds a parallel universe. There is an other "mother" and an other "father", who give Coraline way more attention than she used too with her real parents. There is also another Wybie, who can't talk. There are also other characters like Miss April Spink, Miss Miriam Forcible and also Mr. Bobinsky. She starts to like this world better and wants to stay there. Soon, she realizes that this world is not what she thinks it is. The other mother is actually evil, and wants to take over Coraline and the other father is a slave to the other mother. Taking the advise of a cat she challenges the other mother to a game and beats her in the game and locks the other mother behind. Coraline thinks she is safe but she finds out she has to hide the key, when she does the other mothers hand comes after her. In the end, Coraline hides the key, and loves her parents.
This movie was surprisingly good, i usually hate stop motion animation because they look so fake but this movies looks as if it was made on a computer. My favorite scene was when Coraline went to go see Mr. Bobinsky's mice shoe. I like how they made the cotton candy cannons, it was very creative. The performance looked like a circus and was colorful and creative. I thought the performance was out of this world. This was probably my favorite stop motion animation. It was fascinating how many shots it takes for one scene. The scene where the other mother turns in to a monster, i noticed a lot of detail. Even though it was a movie, i learned a lot. This movie is based on a book.
While watching the Behind-The-Scenes, i learned that a stop motion animation takes lots, and lots of effort and people. This animation took a total of approximately 180'000 photos. All the character were made from scratch. They all started by being sketches and then being built over and over again for all the different scenes. Each model had two pieces to their face, a mouth and then the upper part of the face they did this because this way they could add better facial expressions. One problem with this is that there is a small black line between the two parts so a editor had to photoshop each and every photo to take the line out. Each model has a metal armature behind which basically the bones, and the models have silicone skin. The silicone skin helps the body move and bend easier for the shots. It took one week for an animator to make seven seconds of the film. They did the voices of the characters before the movie started to have perfect voice synchronization.
